2021 - A Year In Review

As we come to the close of the year, it’s time to celebrate our clients who share our commitment to protecting our environment. Water is an increasingly precious commodity, and Aclarus is proud to work with so many municipal and industrial clients who value our environmentally friendly ozone water treatment solutions. Together, we are making a positive impact on combatting the effects of climate change, conserving water, and protecting our planet.

We’d like to thank our clients for generously agreeing to share their experiences using Aclarus ozone in the Case Studies below. During the interviews, one theme was consistent: they aspire to promote greater adoption of environmentally friendly ozone technology because they recognize that it benefits every aspect of life on earth.

Here is a review of our 2021 Case Studies, acknowledging our clients who share our passion in this critical mission:

The George Brewery

The George Brewery crafts its artisanal products in a beautifully restored hotel and bar built in 1845, just north of Toronto, Canada. All breweries require large volumes of water to process and brew beer, and Steven Herold, The George Head Brewer, is committed to protecting the environment and conserving water through ozone disinfection technology.

“At The George we are always striving to make the best quality beer in the most environmentally conscious way. Our mandate is to use the very best water, AND the least amount of water to produce our premium craft beers.”

– Steve Herold, Head Brewer, The George Brewery

Restaurant Pearl Morissette

Award-winning restaurant Pearl Morissette is located in the Niagara Peninsula, the heart of one of Ontario’s oldest and finest wine-making regions. The restaurant strives to achieve carbon neutrality in every aspect of their business. Meat and produce are organically grown and locally sourced wherever possible. And, they use ozone water treatment to provide premium drinking water and sanitization without the use of chemicals.

“When you consider the cost and the benefits, why would any restauranteur want to use anything other than ozone? It is highly functional, providing both fresh-filtered drinking water and chemical-free sanitization.”

– Daniel Hadida, Owner and Chef, Restaurant Pearl Morissette

CannTx Life Sciences

Licensed by Health Canada, CannTx Life Sciences is a successful agri-business operation near Guelph, Ontario whose mission is to “set new standards of quality for medicinal and recreational cannabis products through a distinct blend of science, technology and innovation.” CannTx uses cutting-edge ozone water-treatment technology in the growing process to ensure that their end product is of the highest quality and safe for consumption.

“You can’t grow quality cannabis without effectively treating the source water. I think ozone is essential”

- Buck Young, Director and Co-Founder, CannTx

Town of Cobourg

The Town of Cobourg is a picturesque municipality nestled along the shores of Lake Ontario, a little more than an hour’s drive east of Toronto. With a Green Fund grant from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, the Town integrated an ozone system into the existing infrastructure of the wastewater treatment facility. The end result was a win for the environment.

“The treated wastewater meets or exceeds all environmental regulations; there are no chemical residuals or by-products; and, the increased dissolved oxygen in the effluent water improves the health of aquatic species in the receiving waterway.”

– Bill Peeples, Manager Environmental Services, Town of Cobourg

London Dairy Farms

London Dairy is one of Canada’s largest dairy farms. Its mission is to provide a safe, clean, healthy and comfortable environment for its employees and livestock. The dairy uses ozone to treat the water from its three onsite wells – water that is used for feeding cattle and cleaning milking equipment, cooler tanks and pipelines. The farm’s well-water had high levels of hydrogen sulphide and other minerals that gave off an odour, discoloured the water, and was causing problems with clogging and cleaning of the equipment.

“The use of ozone has eliminated our water issues and resulted in premium quality water without the use of harmful chemicals. It has also extended the life of the farm equipment.”

– Tommy Faulkner, Founder and Owner, London Dairy Farms

Mirepoix Farm

Located in Prince Edward County, Mirepoix Farm is dedicated to organic growing and hand-crafted production methods to create a range of premium quality products, including classic culinary herbs, sauces and condiments. It strives to reduce its carbon footprint by growing many of its ingredients and sourcing others from local producers. The farm also uses ozone to produce quality water for drinking and food processing, to sanitize equipment, and to irrigate seedlings with the oxygenated water.

“The quality and vigor of the seedlings grown in the greenhouse resulting from higher concentrations of dissolved oxygen is amazing. The seedlings are more robust, resulting in better quality crops and increased yields given we now have more growing cycles throughout the year.”

- Timothy Noxon, Owner, Mirepoix Farm

Sandbanks Provincial Park

Internationally famous for its breathtaking sand dunes along the shores of Lake Ontario, Sandbanks Provincial Park hosts more than 750,000 visitors every summer. As part of the Ontario Parks system, Sandbanks places a high priority on environmentally friendly solutions for its operational needs. The Park relies on shallow well groundwater as the source for its drinking water. In 2017, they choose ozone to replace chlorine as its primary treatment solution.

“Sandbanks ozone solution meets all drinking water regulations without harmful chemical residuals or by-products, and the increased dissolved oxygen in the water improves the health of marine life.”

- Bruce Voskamp, Sandbanks Project Manager, Partner, Peak Construction Group

Central Smith Creamery

Central Smith Creamery, located near Peterborough, Ontario, produces a wide variety of premium products, including ice cream, sherbets, frozen yogurts, and other frozen dairy and non-dairy desserts. While using chemical-free ozone for disinfection and oxidation of its well water, the creamery realized another significant environmental benefit: ozone has dramatically extended the life of its equipment, which means less waste is going to landfill.

“Everyone with a cooling tower should use ozone. Our ozone solution has completely eliminated any biofilm and bacteria buildup, reduced our maintenance costs and extended the life of our equipment.”

– Ian Scates, President, Central Smith Creamery

We thank all of our partners for choosing ozone and other environmentally friendly practices. We are inspired by their collective efforts to protect and conserve water, reduce their carbon footprint, and promote sustainable practices. We look forward to working together to make a greater positive impact on our environment in the years ahead.
