Ozone is a superior disinfectant, globally recognized as one of the strongest commercially available oxidants. It is chemical free, energy efficient and cost effective. It is now the fastest growing water disinfection technology in the global water treatment sector.
Solutions
Aclarus Ozone offers a full range of municipal and industrial solutions. In addition to ozone’s superior disinfection benefits, Aclarus system designs also offer significant water conservation and reuse opportunities. It is not surprising that ozone is now the fastest growing technology in the global water disinfection market. Our team of water professionals are eager to engineer an Aclarus Ozone solution that meets your objectives.

Ozone Application
Drinking Water
Ozone is now the primary technology for treating potable water with more than 5000 cities using it for their municipal drinking water treatment. Furthermore approximately 95% of bottled water is produced using ozone. Today ozone is the fastest growing commercially available water disinfection technology in the world.
Ozone Application
Wastewater
Aclarus Ozone designs and engineers proprietary wastewater treatment solutions for small to mid-sized applications including municipalities with populations of 100,000 or less. Ozone has been used for water disinfection for more than 100 years however prior to the 1970’s chlorine was the global standard for wastewater treatment. When it was discovered that chlorine treatment created toxic THM’s, interest in ozone significantly increased. Today more than 5000 cities use ozone for their municipal water treatment.
Ozone Application
Groundwater
Aclarus designs and engineers proprietary ozone solutions for groundwater sanitation and water reuse. Our solutions serve a variety of industrial applications including municipalities, parks, conservation areas, and building infrastructure. Groundwater disinfection can be one of the most challenging water issues to solve. The difficulty arises with respect to determining the source(s) of contamination. Virtually all groundwater contamination is the result of human activity above and/or below the ground surface.
Ozone Application
Stormwater
Stormwater presents unique challenges that requires a solution with the ability to treat spontaneous and large volumes of water, a wide range of contaminants that can fluctuate depending on the time of year, to meet municipal water treatment regulations, and/or be stored for later reuse. Aclarus provides comprehensive on-site and in-house laboratory analysis to determine the typical range of water flow and contaminants, accounting for seasonal variations, snowmelt, salt, sediments, oil & gas leaks and other contaminants.
Ozone Application
Rainwater
Rainwater harvesting has become increasingly important for water conservation and reuse. Aclarus Ozone designs and engineers sustainable water management solutions for the capture and reuse of rainwater. Rainwater is typically piped into large cisterns and treated with ozone on site when needed. Rainwater can also be incorporated into a closed loop system that provides an automated solution for the continuous irrigation and watering of plants, tress, produce etc.
Ozone Application
Reuse Water
Water is the only resource on Earth that cannot be replaced. Aclarus designs and engineers comprehensive proprietary ozone solutions that can treat previously used water for another use. We provide customized solutions for building infrastructure and industrial applications including food processing, beverages, dairies, wineries and breweries.
Ozone Application
Process Water
Ozone has been used for water disinfection for more than 100 years however prior to the 1970’s chlorine was the global standard for sanitation. When it was discovered that chlorine treatment created toxic THM’s, ozone adoption increased significantly. Today ozone is universally recognized as a safe and far more effective disinfectant than chlorine. It is the fastest, strongest and most environmentally friendly water treatment technology available.
Ozone Application
Sanitation and CIP (Clean in Place)
Ozone has been used for water disinfection for more than 100 years, however prior to the 1970’s chlorine was the global standard for sanitation. When it was discovered that chlorine treatment created toxic THM’s, interest in ozone significantly increased. Ozone is now used for sanitation and CIP in multiple industries because it is universally recognized as safe and more effective than chlorine.
Recent & Upcoming Events:
WEFTEC 2022 in New Orleans was a fantastic opportunity to connect with many of North America’s foremost thought leaders on the future of water and wastewater treatment.
Mike Doran, Aclarus President and Co-Founder, and Adam Doran, VP Marketing and Co-Founder had the opportunity to discuss the many future proof benefits of ozone in the WEFTEC Live Studio with interviewer Travis Loop. Watch the video below to learn more about the history of ozone, the drawbacks of chlorine, the benefits of ozone, its’ success in Europe and slow uptake in the U.S., and the many reasons why ozone is a future-proof solution.
The Benefits of Ozone
Sustainable & Environmentally Friendly
Chemical-free. Breaks down to oxygen after contact, improves effluent and dissolved oxygen content in receiving waterways. Low wattage consumption, energy efficient operation.
Superior Disinfection
More effective than chlorine. Eradicates viruses, cysts and pathogens as well as the most challenging contaminants of emerging concern including pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals and microplastics.
Reduced Water Consumption
Uses 30-50% less water than reverse osmosis. Offers a range of water reuse options for irrigation, watering plants, toilet flushing as well as closed loop sanitation.
Comprehensive Treatment Solution
A 3 in 1 treatment that provides disinfection, oxidation and improved aesthetics, including taste, colour and odour. Ozone preserves all healthy minerals.
Food Safe Compliance
Drinking water systems are NSF-61 certified and compliant with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) for food and surface sanitation.
Minimal Maintenance
Fully automated, IOT enabled with remote monitoring options. Safe, easy to operate with no chemicals to monitor or handle. Modular system allows for quick, easy repair with minimal, if any downtime.
Easy Installation
Small, modular, compact footprint allows for easy installation within existing infrastructure as well as scale efficiency. Retro fit ready design provides flexible installation options including on skids, platforms, walls or within mobile containers.
Quick Return on Investment
Significant cost savings associated with water conservation and reuse, elimination/reduction of chemicals (ie chlorine, PAA), reduced wastewater dumping fees/overages and no hot water requirement.
Lowest Lifecycle Cost
The lowest LOC versus chlorine and UV. The average municipal ozone water treatment cost is 5-10 cents per 1m3. Sustainable, produced on site with no need to purchase, transport, and store chemicals.
Ozone is made in nature through two processes
When lightning strikes oxygen in the air it creates ozone
When UV light from the sun passes through oxygen in the air
Both methods break up oxygen molecules to form ozone. A single lightning bolt can create more than 300 pounds of ozone. Aclarus produces ozone using the same methods as nature does naturally.
