Groundwater

Aclarus designs and engineers proprietary ozone solutions for groundwater sanitation and water reuse. Our solutions serve a variety of industrial applications including municipalities, parks, conservation areas, and building infrastructure.

Groundwater disinfection can be one of the most challenging water issues to solve. The difficulty arises with respect to determining the source(s) of contamination. Virtually all groundwater contamination is the result of human activity above and/or below the ground surface. Organics, metals and other contaminants can run deep below the surface and can be further influenced from contaminated rainfall that penetrates the ground.

Contaminants in soil can often be the result of elevated nutrients and chemicals from agricultural run-off. In addition, rainwater attracts any and all contaminants that come in contact with it before/after it reaches the ground surface. Consequently, complex analysis is necessary to determine the source of the contaminants as well as a hydrological report to assess raw water quality.

Aclarus groundwater solutions can incorporate water reuse applications. Although not potable, this water can result in significant cost savings when used for watering plants, irrigation, flushing toilets etc. Furthermore, groundwater can be treated to municipal regulatory standards which can significantly reduce dumping fees and fines.

Ozone has been used for water disinfection for more than 100 years however prior to the 1970’s chlorine was the global standard for sanitation. When it was discovered that chlorine treatment created toxic THM’s, interest in ozone significantly increased. Today ozone is universally recognized as a safe and far more effective disinfectant than chlorine. It is the fastest, strongest and most environmentally friendly water treatment technology available. Ozone breaks down rapidly to oxygen after contact and leaves no residuals in the effluent water.

Ozone is the fastest growing technology in the global water disinfection market today.

Here’s why Aclarus Ozone is the superior solution for your CIP sanitation treatment:

Dedicated Team

Our team of water professionals have engineered and installed more than 1000 Aclarus ozone systems. We work with you to ensure your system delivers exactly what was specified.

✓ Proprietary Technology

Aclarus proprietary ozone technology is engineered and rigorously tested to meet your exact specifications and groundwater treatment requirements. We provide comprehensive on-site and in-house laboratory testing.

✓ More Effective

Aclarus Ozone is a very strong chemical-free disinfectant effective at treating the most complex water problems. The Aclarus Treatment List includes pathogens (bacteria, viruses, cysts), contaminants (metals, inorganics, organics) and contaminants of emerging concern (pharmaceuticals, microplastics, petrochemicals, PFA’s).

✓ Quick Return on Investment (ROI)

Aclarus Ozone offers a quick return on investment (ROI). The elimination or reduction of chemicals (such as chlorine and PAA), no hot water requirement and the ability to reuse water are significant cost saving benefits.

✓ Short Contact Time

Aclarus high flow ozone treatment process requires relatively short contact time, approximately 10 to 30 seconds. Our systems run on-demand with exceptionally high uptime performance.

✓ Lifetime Customer Support

Aclarus commitment to customer service provides assurance that you’ll receive reliable, responsive support for the life of your system.

✓ Increases Oxygen

Aclarus Ozone increases the dissolved oxygen content in the effluent which can eliminate the need for reaeration and elevate the dissolved oxygen content in the receiving waterway.

✓ Comprehensive Treatment

Aclarus Ozone is a comprehensive treatment solution that provides disinfection, oxidation and aesthetic water treatment. Groundwater treated for reuse with ozone can remove colour and odor, unlike chlorine and UV. Reuse water for toilet flushing that has not be treated for aesthetics is typically off putting to the general public.

✓ Lowest Lifecycle Cost

Aclarus Ozone has the lowest life cycle cost versus chlorine and UV. The average municipal water treatment cost is 5-10 cents per 1m3.

✓ Environmentally Friendly

Aclarus Ozone is environmentally friendly - chemical free and energy efficient.

✓ Compact and Modular

Aclarus Ozone systems are compact, modular and easily retro-fit on a small footprint within existing infrastructure.

✓ Minimal Maintenance

Systems require minimal maintenance, and don’t require chemicals that need to be monitored.

✓ Onsite Generation

Ozone is generated onsite. There are no operator safety issues associated with shipping and handling of chemicals.

Groundwater Case Study

Sandbanks Provincial Park

Internationally famous for its breathtaking sand dunes along the shores of Lake Ontario, Sandbanks Provincial Park is home to some of the world’s best white sand beaches and swimming. Sandbanks needed an environmentally friendly solution that could be the primary treatment for its water to reduce or prevent these harmful by-products and to use chlorine after ozone and filtration at a low level for residual protection through the pipes until used.

The system also had to have the ability to treat large quantities of water and be easy to use and maintain.
