Ozone is effective at removing manganese from water without chemicals or salt.

Manganese is a grey metallic element that is about as abundant in the earth's crust as carbon. It's one of only three elements that is both essential to life and also toxic at high levels. It is required by several enzymes for physiological processes such as bone formation and metabolism. But too much manganese will result in neurodegenerative disease. The World Health Organization recommends limiting manganese in drinking water to below 0.4 mg/L (or parts per million). Canada's guideline limit is among the lowest in the world at 0.12 mg/L with an aesthetic limit of 0.02 mg/L.

Manganese is extremely common in groundwater - often found in association with high iron content and is very prevalent in Canada.

Fortunately, ozone is effective at removing manganese from water without chemicals or salt. Whether the concern is taste and odour or the discolouration it can cause on fixtures and laundry, or if the manganese levels are dangerously high, ozone at a 1:1 ratio will oxidize manganese rapidly causing the dissolved form to fall out of solution allowing it to be removed by filters. Aclarus Ozone has developed a proven solution for treating manganese.
